About the Show
Blue Man Group has been creating stage art around the world for over 20 years. Now, Louisville middle school students are getting their chance to design their own Blue Man-inspired masterpieces. In honor of Blue Man Group’s engagement at the Kentucky Center from April 10 through April 15, students from Western Middle School will build a 3-D mural installation to be displayed at the theater. The unveiling is slated for March 2.
The installation, titled Project Blue Drum, is the result of a partnership between PNC Broadway in Louisville and the Louisville Visual Art Association’s Open Doors program. The educational program’s mission is to provide art enrichment experiences to communities with limited access to visual arts. Open Doors pairs local artists with various community groups in a creative setting. For Project Blue Drum, local artist Tara Remington is collaborating with the students of Western Middle School to create the mural.
The students’ Blue Man artwork will make its first public appearance on March 2 on the steps of the Kentucky Center and will remain on display throughout the show’s run.
Blue Man Group centers on three alien-like men all in blue. The non-speaking but friendly characters guide the audience through a hilarious, eye-popping spectacle that incorporates percussive music, visual tricks, bold lighting and fascinating facts about our world. It’s a sensory overload that delights all ages.
